Dr. Diaz
This week, we will be discussing retail sales. One popular model of retail issuperstores"-very large stores, typically owned by corporations- that sell many kinds of different products. We will compare this business model to local retailers, typically small or specialized stores with local owners, such as a camera shop or a small neighborhood grocery store. Do you think it is more beneficial for people to shop at small local stores rather than at superstores? Why or why?
Claire
Shopping at small local stores has many benefits for consumers. One of the benefits is that smaller stores often offer better service than larger stores. For example, if you need to repair your bike, usually the small shop can do it in the shop. At the big store, they had to send it to the manufacturer for repair.
Andrew
While I understand the importance of shopping in small stores to support the local community, there are also clear benefits to shopping in supermarkets. Because large retailers source products in large quantities, they can offer customers a wide variety of products, often at low prices. Therefore, by shopping at large stores, consumers get their money's worth.
Some people want to support their local communities when they are shopping. That is why they prefer to shop at small stores owned by local merchants and buy food and other goods produced in the local area. Other people believe it is more convenient to shop at large stores, such as supermarkets, that sell food and other goods produced in other regions or even other countries. Which approach to shopping do you prefer?
When it comes to buying daily necessities, some people prefer to shop in grocery stores now and then to gather all the things they need, while others prefer to go to a supermarket and buy everything all at once. Which do you prefer and why?(2023.2.26線下獨立口語)
